Communal Gardens as hidden gem

In The Hague a small urban development has been designed co-operatively by its residents along with their chosen architect. A great example of co-housing with a green agenda.

The location is called de Groene Mient. De Mient is the street where they are situated. Groen means green. And that is what united this co-housing group from The Hague. Having initially been unsuccessful in buying the land as a co-housing group, they approached the Hague Council to help them. A group of 33 households then started their journey with the council and their architect to design and develop their sustainable housing community. Terraced houses and apartments border a large central communal garden. The result is amazing. A green, tranquil and secure place created thanks to the ambitions and the care taken by the group.

Sharing spaces

Right in the middle of the co-housing site is an open green space with a simple unobtrusive communal shed.  The materials that were used were not expensive which is understandable, as all the buildings, materials and maintanance of the garden and other shared spaces are paid for by the group.
